WA Engage's human trafficking training for emergency room staff and other medical personnel is now in its second year. The training was developed in partnership with Dr. Cynthia Wolfe, an Olympia-based physician Board certified in both Family Practice and Emergency Medicine with 25 years emergency department experience.
WA Engage offers both a 1-hour Grand Rounds training, and a comprehensive 2-hour training that includes a trafficking survivor speaking to their experience. In 2016 we have expanded our training scope to work with nursing assistants, clinic social workers, case managers and other clinic staff with a unique opportunity to intervene and assist victims.
In August, WA Engage was invited to organize a train-the-trainer workshop for emergency room and birth center nurse educators at CHI Franciscan Health. In 2017, all clinic personnel incoming to CHI's seven hospitals in King, Pierce, and Kitsap counties will receive standardized training on identifying and responding to victims of human trafficking.
